A Message from PPAO President

On behalf of the Police Pensioners Association of Ontario (PPAO), I would like to thank you for taking the time to visit our website and learn a little bit about our organization.

2017 is coming up fast and marks the 20th anniversary of the PPAO. During these 20 years the PPAO has steadfastly grown from an organization which focused strictly on the Ontario Municipal Employees Retirement System (OMERS), to one that is socio-economically and socio-politically active on issues relating to all pensioners in general and police pensioners in particular.

Much has been said about Canada's ageing population and the changing demographic in the Canadian workplace. We are not far away from that watershed moment when the number of persons in Canada on pension, or eligible for pension, will outnumber the number of people in the workplace.

Statistics gathered like these, coupled with longer life expectancies, will provide new challenges to associations like ours in ensuring that the benefits and rights we have worked for and earned during our professional careers are not cast aside for the sake of political or bottom line expediencies.

The PPAO came into being when public sector pension funds were riding on a crest of good fortune, can't-miss investments and high-percentage returns. Today, that's not the case. We have gone from a contribution holiday - as we now look back, a bad idea - to deficits and contribution increases.

How will it all turn out? For the time being the answer to that question remains a mystery. While it is being figured out, the PPAO will do its utmost to represent police pensioners in all matters that may impact our well-being.

It is our sincere wish to accomplish this through a cooperative effort with other public sector pensioner groups such as the Municipal Retirees Organization Ontario (MROO) and The Firefighters Association of Ontario (FFAO) as well as working with the Police Association of Ontario (PAO) who has an equally important stake in OMERS

I hope your visit to our website will provide you with some insight and helpful information about the PPAO and what we stand for. If you have any questions or suggestions regarding our organization please contact us at your convenience.
