What Is An Affiliate Group Or Organization

An affiliate organization is any organized group of retirees, sworn or civilian, from the same police service or living in the same geographical location of 10 or more that is governed by a board of directors, formal or ad hoc, or where there is a person recognized by all in said group, that is responsible for the acceptance and distribution of information from and to the PPAO.

 About Us

The Police Pensioners Association of Ontario (PPAO) was founded in 1997 to unite fraternally and to promote the interests of police retirees from across Ontario.   For over 25 years the PPAO has advocated for its membership to maintain or improve their quality of life as retirees and seniors. We encourage and promote cooperative enterprise and together are a unified voice on issues that affect pensions and health. The PPAO is a provincial organization dedicated to the fraternity of those who have served their communities.

The PPAO is managed by a volunteer board of directors of 8 (eight) people, elected from affiliated police retiree associations from across the province, with elections annually.

Membership in the PPAO is without individual dues if you are a member of a recognized Affiliate Law Enforcement Retirees Association or organization.   If you are not, membership may still be granted as an individual membership at the current yearly dues fee of $25.00.

The PPAO has 2 classes of members, Class “A” – voting, or Class “B” – non-voting.   Class A members are all Directors of the PPAO Board, as well as 1 (one) designate from each recognized affiliate police retiree organization.   All others are a Class B member.

As a PPAO Affiliate Retiree Association, organization, or group (formal or ad hoc), all of your members are automatically considered a paid member of the PPAO with no additional dues payment required, as long as they are current members of your retiree group.   This is because you, as the affiliated association, are responsible to pay any PPAO dues, if required, on their behalf.

The PPAO works hard to develop programs for the benefit of our members and we bring further value by partnering with business to bring our members goods and services at a reduced cost.   We currently have a group extended health care with travel, and dental policy with Securian Insurance, a group home and auto plan with Medallion Insurance and discounted pricing on cell phones, car rentals as well as other goods and services.   All of these are only accessible through the member portal of the PPAO webpage, so we strongly encourage your members to register with the PPAO in order to sign up for the discount and benefit information.

The PPAO is a strong proponent of privacy and security of personal information, and we have a policy on how information is collected, used, and stored.   As a PPAO Affiliate group you should be aware of this policy and ensure that your organization is conforming with it on behalf of your members where appropriate.  The Privacy Policy can be found on the PPAO website, www.ppao.ca.
