So, you found yourself on the PPAO (Police Pensioners Association of Ontario) website. Either you’ve been browsing and stumbled upon us, or you’re here on purpose looking to see what we’re all about. In any event, welcome, and thank you for visiting us. The PPAO started in 1997 as way of providing retired Ontario Police personnel, officers or civilians, a forum to meet and to advocate on behalf of, retired persons. Over the years, we have grown from an organization, primarily dealing with OMERS (Ontario Municipal Employees Retirement System) issues, to one that deals with economical and political advocacy for all pensioners in general and police pensioners in particular. From the Covid pandemic, issues faced by seniors and those retired were made more apparent. Long term care facilities, medical treatment, financial inequalities were some of the things brought to the forefront requiring changes to be made, particularly in relation to Seniors. The PPAO are partnered with a number of different association boards and committees that help to steer the direction of policy when it comes to issues relating to seniors. As a member of the CFP (Canadian Federation of Pensioners) Bill C-253, the Pension Protection Act, was passed in early 2023 giving pensioners super priority during a company's bankruptcy. As a member of NPF (National Pensioners Federation) we are supporting the call for a UN Convention on the rights of elder persons. As a member of the OMERS Retirement Group, (ORG), we are the only retiree group to have a representative on the OMERS Sponsors Corporation Board and the Administration Corporation Board. We also sit on many OMERS committees that have a direct influence for our members. We have also learned, that as retired persons, on fixed incomes, if we thought getting a discount before was exciting, it’s even more so now. With that in mind, the PPAO have developed a fantastic discount program for our members. We have developed group plans for home and auto insurance, extended health care with included travel insurance and dental insurance. Add in preferred pricing plans for the major cell phone companies along with many goods and services from a variety of companies, and our discount program touches almost every sector. Take a look around and what we have to offer you during this life after policing. Just because you’ve stopped working doesn’t mean you’ve stopped living. In fact, life has only just begun and the PPAO is actively trying to make this new part of your life more enjoyable and rewarding.
